International Lynx Day 2026

Every year on 11 June, International Lynx Day is celebrated worldwide. On this occasion, organisations, partners and local communities carry out a variety of activities to raise awareness about lynx conservation and highlight the importance of protecting species such as the Balkan lynx across the range countries. In Kosovo, a new children's book entitled «Guardian of Nature» was launched, while in North Macedonia activities focused on engaging the public through social media. In Albania, a series of environmental events was organised to introduce young people to the species, its threats and its importance for biodiversity.

Kosovo
In Peja, a city in western Kosovo, an event was organised on International Lynx Day 2026 to launch the interactive children's book «Guardian of Nature». The book aims to raise awareness about lynx conservation and biodiversity in general. During the event, copies of the book were donated to local schools to support environmental education and encourage young people to learn more about nature conservation.

North Macedonia
To mark International Lynx Day, the online community in North Macedonia was invited to take part in a social media quiz about the Balkan lynx. Engagement was further encouraged by sharing the correct answers in a follow-up post. As a small token of appreciation, participants received promotional materials from the programme, along with brochures and educational materials about the Balkan lynx and its conservation.

Albania
The main event in Albania took place in Fushë-Arrëz, near Mount Munella, one of the country's most important Balkan lynx habitats. Together with the Shkodër Regional Administration of Protected Areas (RAPA) and the local community, educational activities introduced children and young people to the Balkan lynx and the importance of biodiversity conservation.

Activities also took place in Tirana during a citizens protest for the protection of the Vjosa–Narta Protected Landscape. Illustrated postcards about the Balkan lynx were distributed to citizens and children, accompanied by educational activities on biodiversity and nature conservation.
